Lucille's Story

My father in law Andrew was first admitted to ICU in February 2023 with sepsis. As with most ICU admissions this was completely unexpected and threw us as a family into turmoil from day one. Myself and my husband live abroad and went back to the UK to be with family and to see Andrew. I have a healthcare background and was quickly appointed as Andrew's second contact person, and the point of contact for everyone in the immediate and extended family who wanted updates on his condition and questions answered. This quickly became incredibly overwhelming, and the anxiety of potentially losing Andrew, who I'm very close to, along with trying to absorb and process all the medical information I was being given just became too much. By the April I had developed PTSD and my depression had resurfaced, and I felt completely lost and alone. I was recommended the CCSN support group via HealthUnlocked and it changed my life. I was recommended a particular type of therapy that another member had had success with and was able to start my recovery. I was also finally able to meet people who knew exactly what I was going through and could understand all the complex emotions that come with having a loved one in critical care. Thank you so much to everyone from CCSN who has supported me along the way x
